“Thousand Miles Away” Music Video

In early October, The Zoo Human Project (sans Kevin) took a short road trip to over state lines for a little mini-family reunion. At their destination, they offered a private performance to Jen’s mother, Sally, for her birthday. Once the festivities were over and it was time to part ways, Jen and Derek deemed it appropriate to film themselves performing their song about driving…while on the road home. What began as a simple one-camera performance evolved over the miles as a full-fledged, multi-layered experience.

Reminiscent of Stomp and inspired by the road, The Zoo Human Project present their newest music video for one of their oldest tunes, “Thousand Miles Away”.

On July 23 2010 – the same day as the “NWT” Music Video Premiere – The Zoo Human Project was capturing moments to contribute to the Life in a Day film project. The band rolled camera while tracking a demo of one of their new songs. While playing back the recorded audio, they decided to roll camera again…and that’s when things went a little wacky.

Things go awry when The Zoo Human Project try to shoot a Halloween-themed music video for their fans.

In the spirit of the ghoulish holiday, The ZHP created a short film based on the local paranormal phenomenon: “The Lady with the Twirling Leaf”. It’s filled with terrifying thrills, spooky surprises, and creepy comedic moments.

“12 Jesus Clocks” with Special Guest

Early this October, Derek and Jen took a trip outside of California to rendezvous with family in celebration of Jen’s mother’s birthday. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to bring out the guitars for a private birthday performance. And “12 Jesus Clocks” – written about her mom – was the perfect song.

We hope you enjoy the song and nifty promo work by Sally. We’re sure you’d agree, she was a great sport!

Earlier this month we officially announced our new, regularly-scheduled video series called “Zoo HuMondays.” We’re devoted to entertaining you every week to give you an inside look on how we make music and, of course, have fun! Our last two rounds fulfill both of these respectively.

The video might as well be a commercial for the iPhone 4 since we used THREE of them to capture different perspectives of the ZHPractice. A New Tradition

As momentum begins to pick up for The Zoo Human Project after their brief break, they’re finding more and more means to stay connected with you, the enamored Zoo Maniac. One of the new ways they’ve decided to keep the masses entertained is with their weekly ZooTube updates. Created with the purpose of starting your work week off on the right foot, “Zoo HuMonday” videos will give you the expected performance videos – plus, a glimpse into their creative process and how they spend their non-music moments.

Naked Lounge Round-Up

With our first post-surgery show in the bag, we bring our attention to continuing work on our third album. We’ve faced many obstacles during the three-year process and we appreciate your patience. We’re now trying our best to make the wait worthwhile – and we already have some cool new tunes already cooked up.

In the meantime, we’ll be posting three videos from our recent show on our YouTube – one per week. The first clip features a special stage guest: one of Derek’s guitar students in her first public guitar solo performance. Visit ZooTube to check it out!!

Now that we’ve returned to the stage, we wanted to make one of Derek’s previously unreleased solo tunes available to our most loyal of fans.

Although written nearly eight years ago, “Just Be” maintains relevance to Derek’s post-op epiphany of purpose. If you want the the tune for your collection, simply spread the word about us in one or both of the following ways:

1) Facebook – “Like” us AND tag us in a post (@The Zoo Human Project) describing your fondest ZHP memory. *NOTE: In order for us to see your post, not only must you properly tag us, but it needs to be set to “Public” BEFORE you submit it. The “@” symbol is also required.

The ZHP and TSOG

Despite the fact that our third album is being delayed further, we haven’t been sitting on our hands. In fact, your favorite acoustic trio has ventured into previously uncharted musical lands.

With The Shades of Gray and their debut studio album - To Be Determined – The ZHP makes its first foray into Hip Hop. Even with the stylistic one-eighty, it wasn’t too much of a stretch for the Zoo Crew; Derek Martinez is the guitarist for The Shades of Gray (TSOG). To Be Determined is available NOW (on iTunes and The TSOG Store) and features percussion from Kevin (“Out the Valley”) and vocals from Jen & Derek (“No Control”).

As an exclusive for ZHP fans, we’re offering a free preview of “No Control”. It’s a clean, radio-friendly edit for you too. (If you’d like to be able to download this exclusive version of the track, don’t forget to join our Mailing List!)
